What is Hokkaido Soup curry?
Hokkaido Soup curry is a Japanese curry dish. It became popular in Sapporo in the 2000s and later spread nationwide.
Even today, there are more than 200 restaurants serving soup curry in Sapporo. Each restaurant competes with the others in terms of individuality, and there are many variations. In addition to Hakodate, Asahikawa, Obihiro, and Furano in Hokkaido, Sapporo-based restaurants have opened in Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, and other cities in Japan, and have also expanded overseas to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok.
Ramen, hot pots, etc., are all par for the course in northern Japan.
It is popular or even essential to have something warming and full of flavor.
I think soup curry is a kind of “nabe” in a sense, as it is a liquid food that warms you up.
When I think of Western-style curry hot pot, Hokkaido’s climate is indispensable as a flavor.
Unfortunately, I don’t think you can find it in Tokyo or Osaka.
The aroma and spiciness of the spices uniquely blended by each restaurant, and the delicious flavor of the carefully prepared soup. Soup curry is made with local vegetables and seafood, which is unique to Hokkaido. Why not try it when you visit Hokkaido?
