How to get to Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry, Hakodate Port Terminal

About Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry, Hakodate Port Terminal

Hakodate is a town at the southern tip of Hokkaido, full of exotic atmosphere. It also appears on location in TV dramas and commercials. At the end of the Edo period (1603-1867), when Japan opened its borders to the outside world, the port was opened along with Shimoda in Shizuoka Prefecture. Even today, with the opening of the Seikan Tunnel, it remains one of Hokkaido’s “sea gateways. Two ferry companies, Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry and Seikan Ferry, operate services from Hakodate, and each has its own ferry terminal.

Tips

Used for travel from Aomori to Hakodate (without car). It is less expensive than the Shinkansen, but the transportation from the terminals in Aomori and Hakodate is inconvenient. There are buses, but they are infrequent and you may end up taking a cab. The ship is quite large and did not sway.
