About Omura Park

Omura Park in Nagasaki Prefecture is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Japan and has been selected as one of the “Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan” and “Top 100 Historic Parks in Japan”, and its specialty “Omura Cherry Blossoms” is a designated natural souvenir in Japan.

The characteristic of Omura cherry is that the flowers open in two stages, the outer and inner flowers are strung on one pistil, and there are many sepals and petals. The sepals of ordinary cherry blossoms are only 5 to 10, while the petals of “Omura cherry” are 60 in rare cases and 200 in many cases. The color of “Omura cherry” is vivid purple at the time of flower buds and turns pink at the time of blooming.

It is extremely beautiful and elegant, and is considered to be the best of the best cherry blossoms. At present, about 2,000 cherry trees of 21 species are planted in Omura Park, among which more than 300 Omura cherry trees are planted in Omura Shrine, the central part of the park. Every year, the beautiful and elegant Omura cherry trees bloom beautifully after the Someiyoshino cherry blossoms are finished, coloring a corner of the park pink.

When night falls, you can see the beauty of night cherry blossoms differently from that of daytime under the illumination of colored lights. In the “Omura Flower Festival” held from late March to mid-June every year, in addition to cherry blossoms, irises, wisteria, red flowers, and hydrangeas bloom one after another, bringing unique pleasure to visitors.
