About Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch
Noboribetsu is famous for its bear ranch, but did you know that there is actually a “Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch” on the shores of Lake Toya? It is a cozy bear ranch with a cheaper admission fee than Noboribetsu Bear Ranch, where you can observe brown bears in a relatively relaxed atmosphere and even enjoy feeding them. It is a must-see tourist spot that you should definitely stop by when you travel to Lake Toya.
Showashinzan Bear Farm is located, as the name suggests, at the foot of Mt. Showa Shinzan is a new mountain that was uplifted by eruptive activity that began in 1944, and was designated as a special natural monument of Japan. The rugged surface of the mountain can be seen from the parking lot.
How to get there
(1)20 minutes by car from Date Monbetsu Station
(2)15 min. by bus from Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal (4 round trips per day from April to October only)

Tips
I went sightseeing when I visited Lake Toya because it was close by.
As we drove there, we saw white smoke billowing out from the craggy reddish-brown mountain.
I enjoyed the different atmosphere of the view looking up from below and the view looking down on Showa Shinzan from the ropeway.
