The park has been designated as a national natural monument.
There are more than 1,700 Ezo cherry trees here, and in spring, there are many visitors to enjoy the flowers. The Shrine, located on the hillside, is a great place to observe birds, as it has elm trees and cypress trees that are over 100 years old, as well as wild birds such as black woodpeckers.
There are about 200 species of birds in the zoo, which includes a tropical bird house and an insect house. In the winter, the zoo is covered with snow, and there are giraffes and lions running around in the snow, which is a strange sight you can’t see in other zoos.
Originally part of Yasaka Shrine, it is now a recreational spot for the local people of Japan. When we went there, it was the cherry blossom season and many locals were wearing kimonos and having a picnic under the trees.
In Japan, there is not only a park in Kyoto, but also in Hokkaido. The scenery is beautiful, especially in spring when the flowers are in full bloom, and many locals come here.
In the cherry blossom season, many Japanese people gather together to enjoy the cherry blossoms at night.
