About Jigoku Onsen Museum
Oita This museum conveys the value of hot springs and the need for their preservation to a wide range of visitors to the “Beppu Jigoku Meguri” tour of Beppu Onsen (hot springs). While touring through the arc-shaped architecture that surrounds the steam emanating from the hot springs on the site, visitors can learn about the mechanism of hot spring circulation in two theaters and experience the story of how rainwater is transformed into hot spring water. The facility is both academic and entertaining, aiming to propagate the history and story of hot springs, a blessing of nature, to the next generation.

Tips
Each facility can be used for various purposes, including events and hands-on classes. On the second floor, there is an exhibition of folk tales and history of Yubara Onsen, a reference room with approximately 10,000 books related to hot springs donated by travel writer Fuyuto Noguchi, a space that recreates Mr. Noguchi’s room, and a corner where visitors can listen to a hot spring dojo by a hot spring instructor at all times. It is a fun and informative museum.
