JR Yamanote Line Rental Price List

JR East’s Yamanote Line connects Tokyo’s major terminal stations such as Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Ueno in a circular pattern, and is arguably the most famous line in Japan.

SUUMO Journal, a news site operated by Recruit Co., Ltd. has released the results of a survey of rent prices at each station on the JR Yamanote Line.

The survey ranked the rent prices of rental apartments (exclusive area of 10 square meters or more to less than 40 square meters, studio, 1K, 1DK) within a 15-minute walk from each of the 30 stations on the Yamanote Line in order of the cheapest station.

Rents are relatively low at stations on the north side of the Yamanote Line, while many stations on the south side are more expensive.

Rents seem to be particularly high on the east side between Tokyo and Tamachi, and between Ebisu and Shinjuku.

The stations with high rents are surrounded by large office buildings and business districts, so it seems that you have to go quite far away from the station to find residences.

As for the north side, even though it is a reasonable area among the Yamanote Line stations, it is still at a high level compared to stations outside the Yamanote Line or in Tokyo. (Even at Tabata Station, the cheapest of these stations, it would seem that you would need to pay from 85,000 yen for a studio room.)

Surprisingly, the big station stations “Ikebukuro” and “Ueno” have surprisingly reasonable properties when you look for them, and I think that housing certainly does not exist that far from the stations.
