How to get to New National Theatre Tokyo

About New National Theatre Tokyo

The New Tokyo National Theater is located in Honmachi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, adjacent to Tokyo Opera City in Shinjuku-ku, and is one of the most famous theaters in Japan. Built in February 1997, it is an important venue for opera, ballet, contemporary dance and drama, and is popular with the Japanese public.

Depending on the nature of the performance and the size of the performance, the New National Theater in Tokyo can be divided into “Opera House” (Opera House), “Medium-sized Theater” (Playhouse) and “Small Theater” (The Pit). “The Opera House has 1,814 seats, the Playhouse has 1,038 or 1,010 seats, and the Pit has only 340 to 468 seats. This arrangement not only saves costs by allowing performers to freely choose the size of the theater according to the scale of the performance, but also allows the audience to enjoy high-quality performances that are widely recognized by the community.

In addition to public performances, the New National Theatre of Tokyo has become known not only as a theater, but also as a popular destination for tourists through various programs such as training programs for young performers, exhibition programs, and new product launch programs.
