About Gangouji temple
Nara Gangouji temple of historical significance and artistic level is a temple that does not take very long. There is also a small museum on site to help you understand the background. Unfortunately, the temple’s courtyard area has decreased a lot in recent years, as residential housing construction is eating up the land like crazy.

15-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station or 5-minute walk from Fukuchoin-machi by city bus; 20-minute walk from JR Nara Station or 5-minute walk from Tanaka-machi by bus

Gangouji temple, one of the seven temples in the southern capital of Japan. It is located in Shiba Shinya-cho, Nara City. The first year of the Emperor Chongjun (588), Su me horse son in the fly bird true – original (now Nara Prefecture, Takashi-gun, Akiraika village fly bird) to create a temple, the number of law Xing Temple, also known as the fly bird temple, for Japan’s most ancient Garan. Later, it was renamed Gangouji temple and became one of the four major temples in Hitori, along with Daanji Temple, Kawahara Temple, and Yakushi Temple. Gangouji temple is now listed as a World Heritage Site.
We enjoyed our visit to the temple. There were hardly any other tourists there when we visited. It did not take long to visit this historically significant and artistically important temple. There is also a small museum on site to help you understand the background. Unfortunately the temple courtyard area has been reduced a lot in recent years, as residential housing construction is eating up the land like crazy.
